Outside Southwell Minster

This is PC 1934 Paul Thompson with his daughter Natalie taken around about 1990 / 91 outside the gate to Southwell Minster. The photo was taken by Scenes of Crime for inclusion in the ‘Annual Police report to the Police Authority’
Now the original plan was to have Paul stood alone outside the gate! "Boring," he thought, so he decided to get his daughter out of the local primary school together with her teacher and have them pose with him. The idea was Paul would be pretending to let ‘the little girl’ listen to the police radio traffic – all very public spirited!! Well the photo got published okay in the report, but Paul got carpeted by his sergeant Mick Bajcar!! Someone had seen Paul picking up his daughter and her teacher from the school in the police car to meet the photographer at the Minster, reported him to Mick who assumed he was giving his daughter a lift home!!! Despite Paul's protests of innocence and explanation, he was well and truly ticked off, Mick’s final comment was “Okay then I believe you but don’t let it happen again”
