Andy Padmore's last tour of duty
How's this for sheer dedication to the job, right up to the last minute of the last day before retiring!
Andy Padmore wound it all up as Custody Sergeant at Oxclose Lane
and even worked his very last shift on evenings on September 16th 2001.
"The uniform I was wearing was the only one I had because I had taken
most of my returnable stuff to HQ Stores on the day of '9/11'.
I remember turning the radio on as I drove along Mansfield Road
and all the coverage was of the unfolding disaster. A memorable
day for many reasons.
The first photo was taken shortly after midnight September 16th 2001.
I was on 4pm - 12 midnight and this was my last day of service.
I was completing a custody record, in my own time as a Police
pensioner, such dedication. The photo was taken by Cavin Williams,
civilian detention officer who was on nights. Calvin persuaded me
to stay for 'breakfast' which we had at about 2.30am. I eventually
went home about 4am."
