The lads of Kirkby circa 1953-1955

Photo: Bob Knowles

Bob Knowles's partner was handed this photo to pass to Nottscops of the lads at Kirkby.

Meanwhile, thanks to Peter Brookes, Bob Davy and Chris Akers who can identify a few of these Kirkby Nottscops including the Inspector in the front row as Sam Davy, who later retired as Superintendent. His son is retired Superintendent Bob Davy. Peter also identifies the detective as Ray Street who served with Peter at Beeston 1960-63.

Bob says that the photograph was taken at the front of the Tudor Rose Factory next door to Kirkby Police Station. His dad, Sam Davy, who was the Inspector in charge is on the front row and left Kirkby in 1955 putting the photograph somewhere between 1953-55. Bob recognises many faces as he lived and went to school from that Police Station.
