HGV Driving Courses

Memories from Driving School Sergeant, Dave Lewis
"
Driver training took a different path in 1974 with the onset of HGV licensing. The Chief Constable, Rex Fletcher, decided that all traffic men would receive HGV training. I found a vehicle subject of the photo above, which cost £600 from an HGV company in Claycross, and the firm even put on new tyres. Arnold Workshops painted it. Jim Shirley and I painted a manoevering area at Newark Showground with 4inch brushes and away we went! Most Traffic officers went through the course and I think enjoyed being 'truckers' for two weeks. The vehicle served us well for a number of years."
