Nottscops with Intelligence
Photo: John Burnett (wide picture, scroll to the right to view in full)
When I became a Nottscop in 1974 each sub-divisional police station had its own collator.
Here was a Nottscop who knew everything and everybody and where they lived, all meticulously
recorded on hand-written index cards and filed under such categories as name, address and
Modus Operandi. The big problem was that this was in the days before computers and networking
so it was not so easy for "the knowledge" to be passed round and exchanged throughout the Force.
Eventually, through a change of name from collator to Local Intelligence Officer, the recording of
intelligence became more accesible by means of computerised databases available to all Nottscops.
This photograpgh shows the whole of Force Intelligence in 1977 (photo taken FHQ, Sherwood Lodge).
Lots of names missing so please Contact me if you can supply the missing names.
