Communicating Nottscops
Remember the bat-phones in the control rooms?
The Force's two Control Rooms, North and South are a relatively new system of local control. Shortly before the latest reorganisation each sub-division had its own Control Room staffed normally by between two and four control-operators. These control rooms took calls from the public by means of normal phone lines with numbers in the Phone Book to the local police station.
As time went on these local control rooms had computer links to the main Force Control Room at Sherwood Lodge in order for text messages to be passed down.
But before the days of computer links all 999 calls were passed from the Force Control Room to the nearest sub-division by means of the "Bat Phone" - a red phone sat predominantly on the radio console and from where all 999 messages were taken and passed out to officers via their personal UHF Radio System.
