Bath Street Pandas in 1970

Photo: Paul Woodward

Photographed in 1970 in the back yard of Bath Street Police Station in the City (now a building owned by Lymns Undertakers), Pc 572 Malcolm Walsh and Pc 270 Paul Woodward with Ford Escort MkI pandas.

For some reason they bear their call signs Panda 6 and Panda 7 as boards on the roof and bonnet.

Malcolm Walsh resigned after 3 years service. Towards the end of his short service he was practically strangled by his tie whilst struggling with a prisoner. Soon afterwards, and as a result of that incident, all officers were issued with the clip-on tie which has been in use ever since.
