What Traffic Officers Used To Do!

In the 1970s it was against the law for vehicles to have defective tyres and it was one of the prime roles of the Traffic Department to enforce the law by reporting motorists for prosecution. Here we see Pc 270 Paul Woodward, Nottingham Traffic Wing measuring the tread of a defective tyre.

Incidently, it is still against the law in the 21st century to have dangerous tyres!
