Goodbye Epperstone Manor

After nearly 50 years of service as County Constabulary Headquarters and as the Force Training Centre, Epperstone Manor closed its doors for the last time.

The Manor's association with the police started in 1954. At that time the city had its own force, Nottingham City Police and the rest of the county was covered by the Nottinghamshire County ShirehallConstabulary whose headquarters was at the Shirehall (in the city!), next to the Shirehall Courts on Middle Pavement. During the process of time the Shirehall premises was obviously not adequate for the needs and so the headquarters moved to Epperstone, rightly so, in the County!

Presentation at EpperstoneEpperstone opened officially on June 30th 1954 and closed nearly 50 years later in November 2003. On these pages are photographs of that opening ceremony and, as if to mirror those images, recent photographs of its closing ceremony. There are police cars on the same lawn and officers standing to attention. The cars and the uniforms are not the same though! I have also included photos taken through the years but, as ever, I'm constantly on the lookout for any more material that can come my way.
