Wolseleys at Clumber Park

Wolsely Police CarsPhotographed in Clumber Park in 1967, three Wolseley 6/110 County Constabulary Traffic Cars look immaculate after their weekly wash and polish. Allocated to Worksop, each car was regularly crewed by the same officers on two shifts.

SAL 305F in the centre was crewed by Pc 1372 Brian Wainwright (later Sgt at Epperstone Training School) and Pc 850 Webster. Being the white sheep of the family, this car was later reallocated to patrol the M1 Motorway.

SAL 308F was the pride and joy of Pc Martyn Cox and Pc Richard Matt Dillon (later Chief Superintendent)

SAL 310F, the other black car, was allocated to Pc 1106 John Keith Barrow and Pc 1116 Robin Searle (later Assistant Chief Constable)

Martyn Cox recalls, "Prior to the Wolseleys we had used Fords Zephyrs but the Mark 4 version was such a rubbish model (totally unreliable and handled like a camel) that we had to get rid early. The Force bought in (after test) a job lot of the Wolseley 6/110's that the Met decided they didn't want because they were going over to automatics. The Wolseleys were a sturdy, heavy motor that took some time to wind up - but they were very reliable."
